The Roaming I
Rarely is there a time when I set out to compose or make a photograph. They come more out of noticing one object or space, or even a color, and then wanting to record a moment of experience that might not be there the next day, like things that are discarded or the wear of objects that have been sitting in a window for too long. Though there are recurring motifs in the subjects that I shoot, there are no images that I'm searching for. Once I've recognized one combination of textures or lines in one composition, I might associate a rhyming pattern in another context, like capturing a sprawl of tree roots on one image and then the scattering of leaves or sidewalk cracks in another. One subject is not more valuable to me than another or can be categorized as art more readily.
