In the 5th century B.C.
an Indian philosopher
Gautama teaches “All is emptiness”
and “There is no self.”

In the 20th century A.D.
Barbie agrees, but wonders how a man
with such a belly could pose,
smiling, and without a shirt.

Redacted Emails

The following emails (all names and company information are redacted) were obtained while I was a managing editor at a very popular yoga magazine. The conversations took place between several influential decision makers regarding,  "3 Steps to Find Your True Self" featuring B.K.S. Iyengar.

November 15, 2015: (NameHidden),

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I agree this might be a problem. (NameHidden) is the perfect model for delivering the message of our piece. Not sure, however, she looks right beside BKS.

Are you talking about how his excessive middle seems to literally push her off the page? I spoke with (NameHidden) and he said he might be able to shift BKS to the right of the Top 3 List. We need to maybe find an earlier picture from his youth. (NameHidden) said there are some good hi-res images of him in our correct color scheme, but thinner. I don't want it to look like Santa Claus and an emaciated yoga elf.

LOL. (NameHidden) and (NameHidden) feel we need to find a solution where the visual focus is on (NameHidden) and we keep BKS semi-prominent with whatever picture we select.

BKS must be featured as a NAME for sure. When a reader sees his name mentioned, PR says it instantly legitimizes whatever is attached.

(NameHidden) hasn't taken a single Iyengar class, but we all agree she is the perfect image for what our readers think an Iyengar practitioner looks like.  We shouldn't publicize this fact, however. Or, have (NameHidden) go to a few Iyengar classes and post on Facebook, Instagram, etc when she is there.

You know I'm more of a flow girl myself, but like him a ton. He reminds me of my grandfather. They both have such adorable soft bellies. Speaking of soft areas, (NameHidden) found an earlier picture of BKS. Still soft, but not as jarring with (NameHidden) photo spread. (NameHidden) might have to have her outfit color corrected to match BKS waist wrap thing.

Told (NameHidden) that he picked the perfect image of BKS. Really proud of him. Guru daddy looks perfect against our graphic. His arm is raised so it looks like he is pointing at the "3 Ways" anyone can find their "True Self."

Great work team!!!!!
